1. Flagship Dual Camera
The Mi A1 is the first dual camera offering from Xiaomi in the sub-Rs 20000 price range. The 12-megapixel wide angle lens is paired with a telephoto lens. The marriage of two lenses will result in pictures with blurred background, aka the Bokeh effect and is touted to rival the best in the industry. What’s more, the Mi A1 boasts of 1.25-micron large pixels resulting in more light intake. When it comes to the zoom level, it boasts of a 2X optical zoom and a 10x digital zoom. Plus, the dual-tone LED flash is the perfect wingman to the dual camera setup, thus letting you capture great moments even in low light conditions.
2. Based on Android One
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is based on Google’s Android One and in the first Xiaomi phone not to feature MIUI. The main advantage of Android One is faster and regular updates. While the updates will come from Google, Xiaomi might tinker with the updates to provide the best of both worlds. Though a pure Android experience means that it won’t contain the usual Xiaomi apps, however, the Mi A1 will include a couple of pre-installed apps like the camera app and the Mi Store app. Also, Xiaomi has assured of the device updating to Android Oreo by the end of this year. Plus, the Mi A1 will be one of the first devices from Xiaomi to be updated to Android P, when it’s launched.
3. Powerful Processor + Cool Cooling Technology
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset which clocks at 2.0 GHz and packs in 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. If you recollect, this was the same processor that was used in the company latest offerings — Redmi Note 4 and Mi Max 2. As the director of Product Management for Xiaomi, Donovan As the director of Product Management for Xiaomi, Donovan Sung, implied during the launch — Xiaomi flocks to the Snapdragon 625 chipset like bees to honey. Adding to it, the Mi A1 has an additional thermal cooling comprising of pyrolytic graphite sheet which can lower the device temperature by as much as 2-degree centigrade.
4. Premium Design
The Xiaomi Mi A1 sports a metallic unibody with round back edges, rounded corners and a slimmer profile at just 7.3-mm thickness. Plus, it tips the scale at just about 165 grams. Similar to the latest Android flagships, the Mi A1 has its antenna lines at the perimeter, thus lending a smooth finish to the rear, broken only by the dual camera setup and the fingerprint sensor. Plus, the Xiaomi Mi A1 also boasts of a fingerprint resistant back.
5. Screen Protection
The build quality of Xiaomi phones has always been debatable with the screen shattering even on minor falls. However, with the Mi A1, Xiaomi has done things a tad differently. It comes packed with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass protection, thus providing a fall back against nasty falls.
6. Better Audio Performance
With the Mi A1, Xiaomi has assured of a better audio performance. It packs in a standalone audio amplifier coupled with DHS Audio Calibration algorithm, along with a 10V smart audio amplifier. While the algorithm would help in improving the speaker outputs by channeling the deeper lows and higher volume, the standalone amplifier would bring out the true potential of any headphones.
7. USB Type-C Connectivity
Following close on the heels of the Mi Max 2 and the Mi 6, the Mi A1 also sports a USB Type-C connectivity. This can be used both for high-speed data transfers and (you guessed it right) to power up the 3080mAh battery unit. What’s more, the USB Type-C has a custom 380V charger, made to protect against the power surges in India.
Price
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is priced at just Rs 14,999 and will be available in India from September 12th, in both online and offline markets. While the online sale is exclusive to Flipkart and mi.com, the offline market includes the Mi preferred partners like Purvika, Sangeetha, etc. It’ll be available in three different colors –Black, Gold and Rose Gold.
