There are a few ways to solve this problem which I will discuss in this guide. That should help resolve the problem when MIUI lock screen notifications are not working problem for most users. Let’s begin.
1. Update OS and Apps
The first thing you should do is check for any pending update for your OS. If it is an OS-related issue, they may have released a patch. To check, open Settings, tap on About phone and then select System update. Your phone will check for update and will inform you if there is one available At this point, I would also recommend you to update all the apps you have installed on your phone by visiting the Play Store. Open Play Store and tap on the menu to select My apps & games. Tap on Update All to begin and make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi to avoid unnecessary data charges. Check if you can receive notifications on the lock screen now.
2. Reboot
Once you have checked and updated the OS and the apps, reboot your Android phone as this little trick is known to resolve quite a few problems on smartphones.
3. Notification Settings
An option in MIUI allows users to choose whether they want to receive notifications when the phone is locked. Open Settings and scroll a little to find Notifications & status bar. Make sure that the Show on Lock screen is toggled on here. On second thought, Show notification icons should also be enabled here.
4. App Specific Notification
Are you receiving notifications for some apps while others simply fail to appear on the lock screen? If that is the case, then you will need to tweak app-specific notifications. Go back to Notifications & status and tap on App notifications here. You will see a list of all apps that you have installed on your Android mobile. Select the app for which you wish to receive notifications on the lock screen. Note that the options for separate apps are different, but you are looking for lock screen notifications. For example, in Boost, Tap on Replies, messages, and mentions to find that option. When in doubt, check all options to make sure you are not missing anything.
5. System Settings
To protect your notifications from prying eyes, MIUI has another feature inside system settings where you can choose how you want to receive notifications. Open Settings and tap on Lock screen & password. Tap on Advanced settings here. Select On lock screen. That is where you can decide if you want to receive notifications on lock screen. If yes, do you want to hide its contents or not? Very useful to protect private messages and calls, for example.
6. Battery Settings & MIUI Optimizations
There are two things we need to consider here. One is the battery optimization settings that come pre-installed on all MIUI smartphones, and the other is third-party apps that you may have installed. I will cover the first since it’s not possible to cover all 3rd party apps. You will have to check them yourself to make sure they are set correctly. Open Settings and click on Battery & performance. Tap on Battery optimization here. Tap on the gear icon on the upper-right of the screen. Make sure that ‘Turn off mobile data when the device is locked’ is set to Never. Also set ‘Clear cache when the device is locked’ to Never. That will help avoid any possible conflicts. Go back and tap on Choose apps now. Select app for which you are not receiving notifications on your lock screen. In most cases, Battery saver (recommended) option is good enough, but if you fail to see notifications even after trying everything shared above, I would suggest you select No restrictions here to avoid any conflicts in the future.
7. Autostart
When you reboot your phone, some apps do not start automatically because they do not have the necessary permission. To check if the app that is not displaying a notification on the lock screen go to Settings and tap on Manage apps and choose an app. Toggle Autostart here and check again if you receive notifications on the lockscreen.
You’re My Favorite Notification
It is very frustrating when you miss an important notification, especially if the OS failed to work as intended. The consequences can be, in some cases, severe. We have come to rely on smartphones so much, and notifications play an important role. One of the above solutions should have resolved the MIUI lock screen notifications not working issue. If not, reset is the only option left. Next up: Don’t like the default MIUI launcher? Learn how Nova Launcher is better and can improve your user experience in the guide below.
