As more and more people are accessing the internet on the move with their smartphones these days, this feature becomes a necessity (almost) for them too. As my area of expertise is Android, I will show you how you can achieve private browsing on your Android device, or you may say the incognito mode on Android. We will talk about two browsers and how you can use them depending upon the version of Android you are using, to accomplish history-free browsing.
Using Chrome Beta For Incognito Mode on Android
Google Chrome for desktop made private browsing very simple for computers, and now they are continuing the trend on Android as well. Whenever you are in a mood to go off the records on Chrome for Android, just open up the settings panel by clicking on the Menu soft key (three dots button on some devices like HTC One X) and select the option New Incognito Tab. That’s all, you can now browse freely on the new incognito tab without leaving any browsing history, search history and cookies behind. Though the process is very straightforward with Chrome, it’s available only for the devices running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). For those of you who are yet to get the ICS update and are on Froyo or Gingerbread version, we have a workaround for you using the Dolphin HD Browser.
Using Dolphin HD Browser For Private Browsing on Android
Dolphin Browser HD is one of the most promising browsers for Android and works on all the devices running on Android version 2.1 or above. Though there is no dedicated feature for going completely off the records like we had in Chrome, with this workaround you can force the browser to stop recording the pages visited in a session on the browser history. Once you have installed the app and finished with the initial setup wizard, press the Menu button—>More—>Settings on the home screen. Here navigate to the Private and Security tab and select and de-select the options to make browsing private. To make it at par with the Google Incognito mode just toggle the checked options to unchecked and vice versa. The only down side is, there is no shortcut to bring the private browsing option and each time you wish to switch in between regular and private session you will have to toggle these options manually.
My Verdict
If you have an ICS ROM, Chrome is the best you can have, but if you are on a Non ICS version of Android, Dolphin HD is one of the best browsers to work on.
