So, when the phone’s hardware is aiming for the best, why compromise on a subpar video player? Yeah, the right video player can greatly enhance your movie watching experience. While not all video players are built equal, we believe that they must (at the very least) imbibe some of the new-age features like gesture scrolling, subtitle processing, and the ability to play almost any formats that you throw at it. If you have been planning to switch over from your Android’s default video player, here are the top 5 video players that we think you must check out.
1. MX Player Beta
MX Player is one of the first names that pop into my mind whenever I think about Android video players. Its simple interface and intuitive touch gestures make this player a darling among the Android users. Not to mention the seamless subtitles download process and its support for both hardware and software decoding. Over the years, MX Player has introduced many handy features and one of the latest features in its beta release is the Online section. This dedicated category displays the trending YouTube videos, depending on your region. What’s more, this video player also has a section for music. From trendy numbers to cool playlists — it has them all. The only issue I find with MX Player is the insane number of ads. Apart from that, there’s the issue with Dolby AC3 audio. However, it can be easily fixed with this simple trick. Download MX Player Beta
2. VLC Player
VLC is an old name in the field of video players and is a close rival of MX Player, thanks to its rich features. With its simple and no-frills interface, it takes care of your hunger for media consumption effortlessly. But the feature which stole my heart was its ability to stream videos and songs from PC to Android directly. Other than that, you can find some of the basic features of a video player like online subtitle download, sleep timer and audio and video streaming capabilities. Furthermore, if you’re not yet on Android Oreo, VLC Player lets you lets you have the Android O-like Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode. I loved the fact that if you’re a first time user, the player will guide you through the set-up process and gestures. The icing on the cake is that VLC Player for Android doesn’t have any ads, which makes your movie experience truly worthwhile. 3. Video Player All Format
The Video Player All Format app (Yeah, that’s the name) is from the makers of InShot Video Editor. If you’ve used the app in your video editing experiments, then you can expect a similar mess-free interface. Video Player All Format brings a lot of features to the table such as hardware acceleration, gestures and supports almost all the common video formats (hence, the name, you see). Interestingly, it has a toggle for Night Mode which you can simply turn on when you want to experience the dark mode in all its bliss. Plus, if you’d like to password-protect some of the videos, this app has that option also. As I said, plenty of neat options. Download Video Player All Format
4. GOM Player
Windows users must be already familiar with GOM Player. Similar to its Windows variant, GOM Player for Android supports a diverse range of file formats and also has support for subtitles. True to an Android app, it comes equipped with gesture control and a sleep timer. However, what makes it stand out starkly among its competitors is its ability to play 360° videos and VR-supported videos. What’s more, you can easily control the control the playback from the screen (similar to VR games). Another interesting feature is the screenshot option. With it, you won’t have to struggle with the power key and volume rockers. All you have to do is tap on the icon and you’ll be sorted! Apart from that, GOM Player has cloud connect and you can save your videos to your account on Google Drive or Dropbox. That was the good part. The bad part is that it has ads. However, they are not as frequent as in the MX Player. Download GOM Player
5. MoboPlayer
Last but not the least, we have the MoboPlayer app. If you’re looking for a fuss-free video player for Android, this app might just be the one. The interface is clean, however, let not the simple interface deceive you. The app’s controls are intuitive and straightforward and will help you sail through movies and videos. One of my favorite features is its built-in ability to create a GIF or a short video clip (from the currently playing video track). Plus, the option to save the video in a lower resolution helps if you are planning to share the clip with your friends. It also comes equipped with the Picture-in-Picture mode. The icing on the cake is that you can customize the size of the frame. Cool, right? Download MoboPlayer
